Description

On 21-22 August 2008 the 2nd International Sustainability Conference ISC 2008 took place in Basel under the theme of "Creating Values for Sustainable Development". Jointly organised by the Institute of Management (IM) at the School of Business FHNW and the University of Basel, Program Sustainability Research, the conference aimed to facilitate the inter-disciplinary exchange between economics and other social sciences. Out of 400 abstracts initially submitted and reviewed by the Advisory Committee, 130 presentations were eventually selected and presented at the conference. The presenters, representatives from science, the private sector, state agencies and civil society, talked to conference participants from 33 countries. The keynote lectures were held by distinguished representatives of the idea/concept of Sustainable Devel-opment: Dennis L. Meadows, Saskia Sassen, Alice Tepper Marlin and Klaus M. Leisinger.
After the conference, as in the case of ISC 2005, the best conference papers will again be published in refereed scientific journals by the ISC-chairmen Professor Claus-Heinrich Daub (University oAS Northwestern Switzerland) and Professor Paul Burger (University of Basel) and by the conference manager Yvonne Scherrer. The papers will be published in the form of special issues of the "Journal of Business Ethics" and "The International Journal of Sustainable Development and World Ecology".
A selection of the best conference papers will be published in special issues of two fully-refereed academic journals, reviewed by a special ISC reviewing committee and edited by the chairmen of the conference.
